Maternal Ancestry Test Upgrades
Tracing maternal lineage involves testing mtDNA. All humans have 3 regions in their mtDNA, namely: namely: HVR1, HVR2 and Coding Region. Testing just the HVR1 and HVR2 regions alone will allow you to predict your mtDNA haplogroup. All 3 regions need to be tested to confirm your mtDNA Haplogroup and Subclade. The mtDNA coding region upgrade test is US$358. Upgrade tests can be ordered directly from your account by clicking the “Get Tests” button on the top of the page after you login to your account. Please note that testing the Coding region is optional and only intended for those who wish to confirm their ancient mtDNA haplogroups. Whenever an upgrade test is ordered, the laboratory will use the DNA remaining on file. If you have sufficient DNA on file, then no additional DNA collection is required. If additional DNA is required, a notification email will be sent to you to indicate a requirement for recollection for more DNA.

Paternal Ancestry Test Upgrades
Paternal ancestry test upgrades will depend on your end goal. Testing more than 20 Y-DNA STR markers is helpful for those who have already found close matches in the DNA Reunion web app, and wish to compare more markers to increase the discrimination power of the TMRCA calculation. TMRCA stands for “Time to Most Recent Common Ancestor” and is a measure of how many generations ago any two male individuals shared a common paternal ancestor. However, testing more Y-DNA STR markers is not recommended if your goal is to confirm your Y-DNA Haplogroup or subclade. For those who have received a weak or medium Y-DNA Haplogroup prediction, and wish to confirm their Y-DNA haplogroup, they can take the Y-DNA SNP Haplogroup Determination test to confirm the Y-DNA Haplogroup. Whenever an upgrade test is ordered, the laboratory will use the DNA remaining on file. If you have sufficient DNA on file, then no additional DNA collection is required. If additional DNA is required, a notification email will be sent to you to indicate a requirement for recollection for more DNA.
